Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference
AFTER-SCHOOL COMMITTEEs
Hands4Hope After-School Committees provide opportunities for middle and high school youth to create service-learning projects that help fill unmet community needs. Committees are open to any youth, and are a great way for youth to meet others who go to different schools and live in different areas of the region, but who share a common interest in making a difference.
Each Committee is lead by a team of youth who are responsible for the planning, organization and implementation of their project, under the guidance of their Adult Mentor.
The "Essentials Committee" is a year-long Committee that collects and distributes food, clothing, and other essential items to those in need through multiple opportunities throughout the year.
The other Committees meet on a seasonal basis. They include:
-
School Supply Committee
-
Kids Zone Committee
-
Fall Festival Planning Committee
-
Winter Boutique Committee
-
Empty Bowls Committee
-
Ryan Christopher Hersh Memorial Scholarship Committee
In addition, the Youth Board Committee is comprised of youth leaders from all the Clubs and Committees, and helps to steer the organization and train other youth. The Alumni Association Committee connects Hands4Hope alumni with opportunities to maintain their affiliations and stay involved after graduating high school.

Ryan Christopher Hersh Memorial
Scholarship Committee
Benefiting Local Youth who Need Support to Attend Summer Camp
Ryan Christopher Hersh was an active participant with Hands4Hope and the goal of this scholarship is to continue his legacy by giving youth with limited means the opportunity to attend a summer camp in which they will be able to further develop an interest or skill. This committee starts to meet in February each year and is composed of youth in middle and high school. Members of this committee determine criteria for scholarships, create and distribute the RCH Scholarship Application, market the scholarship program, review completed applications, and award scholarships, while managing the program budget.
Kids Zone committee
Benefiting Hands4Hope Education
& Community Engagement Programs
The Kids Zone Committee plans and hosts the Kids Zone Area at El Dorado Hills Town Center’s Fireworks and Freedom Concert annually on July 3. Kid Zone Committee participants select bounce houses, concessions and entertainment, as well as organize volunteers, secure sponsorships, create a marketing plan, manage an event budget, and oversee ticket sales and concessions at the event.

The Hands4Hope Empty Bowls Committee oversees the planning and implementation of the annual Empty Bowls event in Placerville, a sit-down dinner featuring live music and vendors that raises funds to fight hunger in our community and beyond.
Fall Festival
committee
Benefiting Hands4Hope Education & Community Engagement Programs
The Fall Festival Committee produces an entertaining, fun, and family friendly weekend-long festival at El Dorado Hills Town Center. The goals for this project are to raise funds, build leadership skills, and have fun. Youth participants form subcommittees, with youth leaders in charge, guided by an Adult Mentor. Subcommittee choices are: Operations & Finance, Games & Activities, Marketing & Fundraising, and Volunteer Management. This committee meets June through early October.
School Supply Committee
Benefiting Children in Need in El Dorado and Sacramento Counties
Committee participants develop advertising, market for and host the Hands4Hope annual School Supply Drive, as well as the annual School Supply Distribution to benefit students in need. Participants work with local businesses and organizations to collect school supply donations, manage the annual "Stuff the Bus" event, then lead events to count and sort the donations to prepare them for distribution. The Committee is youth-led with the oversight of an Adult Mentor, and is open to youth in 7th-12th grade.
Winter Boutique Committee
Benefiting Children in Need in El Dorado and Sacramento Counties
Winter Boutique Committee participants plan, advertise, set up, and volunteer for Hands4Hope’s annual Winter Boutique, where many local foster families and families experiencing hardship come to “shop” for warm clothes, shoes, and blankets. The committee works together to create a fun and magical boutique-like shop. The committee selects a theme, décor and designs the space layout. This committee meets from mid September through mid-December.
